Witches exist right on the border between fantasy and reality, stuck between folklore, superstition, tradition, and secrecy. Mangled in books and movies, abused and judged in the real world for more than 400 years, they are back in the limelight today in the modern world, with a story to tell.
It is not clear when witches began to exist. There are some references to witches in the bible that place them between about 900 and 700 BC but the most credible theory is that witches have always existed. Popular images represent them as ugly in appearance and advanced in age, flying on a broomstick, dancing, or conversing with the Devil.
For a long time religion, magic, spirituality, medicine, science, alchemy, astrology, astronomy, and physics had very fluid and not-so-defined boundaries, only from the end of the 1700s onwards did the various disciplines begin to be separated reaching the clear separation that we know and use today.
